Premier League: Bolton v Tottenham half time report
Bolton 1 Tottenham 0
Bolton are a goal up against Tottenham at half time at the Reebok stadium thanks to their captain Kevin Davies.

Davies gave Bolton the lead with a neat finish, but it shouldn’t have stood as the Bolton captain was in an offside position when he was put through by Matt Taylor.

Tottenham seemed to be feeling the effects of beating Inter Milan in midweek in the Champions League, and it was Bolton who kept the ball better and created the better chances.

Within seconds of the start of the match, Bolton hit the ground running when Taylor hit a shot from inside the penalty area, but his left-footed effort didn’t trouble Tottenham ‘keeper Heurelho Gomes.

Tottenham skipper Luka Modrić was looking lively in the opening stages, threading through passes to the in-from Gareth Bale, and it was Modrić on 12 minutes who made a good run into the box, and picked out Sandro, making a rare start today, but the shot went harmlessly over the bar.

Grétar Steinsson was the man up against Bale, and he was doing well keeping the Welshman quiet so far. With neither side creating decent goalscoring chances, the first shot on target eventually came from the home side, with Taylor once again having the effort which was straight at Gomes.

Gomes was called into action on the half hour mark as he palmed away Steinsson’s dangerous cross into the box as Bolton began to put the pressure on Tottenham.

Davies punished Tottenham a minute later as Fabrice Muamba dispossessed Wilson Palacios, with the ball being picked up by Taylor, and it was his through ball that found Davies, who calmly slotted into the back of the net with a left-footed finish, even though he was in an offside position when he received the ball.

Bale now began to get into his stride, and he burst down the left on 37 minutes and delivered a wonderful ball to Peter Crouch, who couldn’t get his long legs onto the ball when rushing in towards goal.

Bolton will be pleased they are leading, and Tottenham have a lot of work to do if they want to get anything from this game.
