Premier League: Fulham 3-0 vs. West Bromwich Albion – Match Review (Part 1)
Simon Davies got the game going for Fulham in the first half. His fabulous strike took Fulham above West Bromwich. Later, Clint Dempsey and Brede Hangeland scored to lift the pressure up from Mark Hughes’s shoulders. The team was
suffering in the relegation zone fighting its way out; however, with an easy win over West Brom, the pressure is off the North London club as they jumped over a few teams and they are currently placed 13th in the points table.
Fulham had to entertain West Bromwich Albion in their home ground, the Craven Cottage. The home team started to pull strings right from the onset. They controlled the possession of the ball and also took their shots to keep a good
balance of possession between their defenders, midfielders and strikers. Fulham took good advantage of West Brom’s defenders as their manager Roberto Di Matteo was suffering from injury-crisis at the back. Not all the four defenders were from the first team
and it was clearly seen that the team was missing their real defenders.
For the first quarter of the game, Fulham were the ones who totally dominated by taking their chances. They created great openings and totally exploited West Brom’s defensive walls. Soon, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Baird gave a lovely long ball towards
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diomansy-Kamara-c11343. The former West Brom player took his chances and tried to shoot the ball into the net from outside the box. However, his effort was not rewarded and the ball rushed past the left goal post.
After a few minutes, there was a large penalty shout when Clint Dempsey was taken down by Youssuf Mulumbu from behind. It was a cross from Kamara towards the American international, who then took a fall after being challenged from
behind. Even though the crowd roared over the decision, the referee Martin Atkinson decided not to point at the spot kick.
On the other end, “the Baggies” decided to counter attack. The visitors almost took a lead after a “wonder ball” from Chris Brunt that saw Jerome Thomas standing open in front of the goal. West Brom were about to lead the game
until Fulham’s back-up goalkeeper David Stockdale made a great save and the ball was later cleared by John Paintsil.
From this time forward, West Brom started giving the home team a little tough time. Graham Dorrans was the one who became the danger man for the second time round. He passed the ball towards Brunt in the very next minute, but Fulham’s
goalkeeper was on his toes yet again, as he saved the day for the home side and cleared the ball to safety.
When the clock struck the half hour mark, West Brom’s defensive problems increased even more. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicky-Shorey-c27735 at the back, as he had to go off because of injury. The home team
were ready to take advantage of this “new” back-four of the Baggies and they exploited the oppositions’ defence. Minutes later, Clint Dempsey almost scored, but his shot was blocked by Scott Carson and it went out for a corner.
