Premier League: Fulham may rue Liverpool’s ungraceful win for long
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish’s return brought the second consecutive win for the Reds in the Premier League at Anfield. Though it was an unimpressive
goal that got Liverpool the win, the result was the propelling 3 points that got them to the seventh place on the table.
It was the second win for Dalglish in his second spell as manager. The first two games for him ended in defeat, while the third was a draw. Finally, Dalglish
got his first win on the weekend and the team looks to be growing in confidence with two wins on the go. While their opponents – Fulham – are 4 points away from the relegation zone.
Kenny Dalglish was the man in charge of Liverpool when the Reds completed a record 10-0 against Fulham in 1986.
Liverpool started the game on a high tempo, the Reds looked high on confidence and the 4-4-2 formation looked to be working. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678 had played a wonderful
ball for Fernando Torres and he almost put the Reds ahead. However, the linesman had his flag up and the goal was ruled offside.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martin-Kelly-c24395, the right-back for Liverpool, was impressive on the flank. He kept making overlapping runs on the wing. It was one of his runs that ended with
an inch-perfect cross for Meireles, but his header was off-target, and Fulham survived.
In-form Fulham keeper Keith Stockdale was tested a number of times in the first half. Liverpool captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196, in his first game since suspension,
did not wait long, taking a 20 yard shot at goal early on. Stockdale dove full length and palmed it away.
Fulham had been defending for most of the first half, but in the final round they had a couple of chances. Clint Dempsey, the American striker, did well
to get on the end of a cross, but his left foot shot was well saved by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Dembele, whose shot was inches wide.
It was the defensive back four for both teams that had been doing most of the work, as attacks kept coming thick and fast. Even though http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 did hold
the upper hand, the way the goal came was unlucky for Fulham.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 got hold of the ball on the edge of the box. He took the ball on his right foot and had a shot across the goal. Hangeland deflected the ball
onto the post but the ball remained on the goal line. John Pantsil tried to clear it but the ball ended in his own net.
Fulham tried to hit back quickly and once again it was Clint Dempsey who had the ball to his feet inside Liverpool box. He used his right foot and tried
to curl the ball in the top corner. Reina did well to jump high and deflect it away. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Murphy, a former Liverpool player, later had a chance with a free kick. The midfielder played a good ball in from the edge of the area, but there was no one to get on
the end of it. The game finally ended 1-0. Fulham may well rue the chances they bungled for a long time to come.
