Premier League Full Time Report - Arsenal 3-0 vs. Wigan Athletic; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 scores a hat trick
Arsenal took on Wigan Athletic in a game that was a must win for the Gunners to keep their title challenge on track. With Arsenal looking to be nearing their full strength prior to kick-off, all signs pointed in the direction that
the North London side would secure all three points on the night.
The line-ups for the match were as follows:
Arsenal: http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360, Robin van Persie
Subs: Shea, Denilson http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Bendtner-c27726
Wigan: Ali Al-Habsi, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Rodallega-c16414
Subs: http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Callum-McManaman-c8267
The match kicked off in almost predictable fashion as Arsenal started to dominate the game from the very first minute. However, the team had to wait all the way until the 21st minute to find a way past the in-form, Al-Habsi
in between the Wigan posts.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-Song-c4804 threaded a through ball for Robin Van Persie in the 21st minute and the striker met the pass in his stride, to smash the ball past the advancing keeper to get Arsenal on the score sheet.
Despite the early domination, the gunners had to wait until the 58th
minute to find the back of the net for their second goal.
Cesc Fabregas scooped up a brilliant quick free kick that caught Wigan sleeping and the brilliant pass dropped in front of Van Persie, who smashed the ball into the back of the net on the volley.
The Dutchman then had the chance to make it three for him and in effect for Arsenal in the 70th minute, when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Caldwell-c14440 tripped Fabregas in the box. The challenge left the referee with no choice, but to give Caldwell
his marching orders and Arsenal were awarded a free kick. Van Persie stepped up to take the shot and bury it, but ended up caving under the pressure and sending his spot-kick well wide of the mark.
Nonetheless, the forward made up for his penalty miss by completing his hat trick in the 84th minute, scoring Arsenal's third and final goal of the game in the process.
Walcott rushed onto a through pass and managed to hold off Figueroa for just the right amount of time, just to see the in-form Van Persie rush past him and sweep the ball into the back of the net to complete his hat trick.
