Premier League Full Time Report: Aston Villa vs Chelsea – Match ends in stale mate as neither side finds back of the net
Despite both the teams going unusually close in the last half an hour of the match, which saw Chelsea hit the post on two occasions and Villa once, neither one of the teams actually put the ball in the back of the net and hence the game ended as a nil all
draw.
Chelsea were faced with some major injury concerns going into the game, however the team was able to recall their captain John Terry, who won the race against time to be fit on time for the match. Nonetheless Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba were both left
out of the game due to injuries. Aston Villa were also without Emile Heskey who couldn't prove his fitness in time to make the cut to play the game.
Aston Villa could have taken the shock lead in the opening two minutes, when Stewart Downing blazed down the right wing to set up Stephen Ireland. However Ireland couldn't keep his shot on target and the opportunity went to waste.
Villa were also given an early scare as Richard Dunne was forced off the pitch due to an ankle injury.
Chelsea fans were given some good news later on as Jose Bosingwa finally make as appearance for the team after being out of action for nearly a year.
Chelsea started to dominate in the second half of the match, but just couldn't seem to put the ball in the back of the net. Both Branislav Ivanovic and Nickolas Anelka managed to hit the wood work for the team.
Aston Villa could have broken numerous Chelsea hearts as Nigel Reo-Coker managed to win the ball off a lazy Terry and get in a one on one situation with Petr Cech in the last seconds of the game, however the player couldn't keep his shot on target and the
match finally ended as a nil all draw.
However all was not lost for Chelsea on the night, as their closest competitors Manchester United also suffered a draw with West Brom.
This match nonetheless proved just how important the presence of Frank Lampard and Didider Drogba is to the Chelsea side. Despite everyone else doing their best in the game, they just couldn't live up to or match the same cutting edge that the duo provide
to the team. However it is safe to say, with both the players scheduled to make their returns within a fortnight, all h**l is set to break loose at the Stamford Bridge once that does happen.
