Premier League Full Time Report: Chelsea vs. Arsenal – Part 4
Thomas Rosicky was brought on in the second half to try and inject some creativity to the Arsenal side. The Czech international, seemed to do just that, but once again there just seemed to be something missing from the Arsenal side, that no one could really
put their finger on. They were creating opportunities, creating space but were still one goal down.
On the eightieth minute, Arsenal could have gone level again. Sagna once again played a brilliant ball to the head of Chamakh, but this time the forward couldn't keep his header on target as he guided the ball downwards, but just beyond the goal post and
another chance went begging for the Gunners.
Then once again, with Arsenal dominating, Chelsea conceded another goal. This seems to have become a habit for the North London team, but the goal was a beauty. Chelsea won a free-kick some twenty five to thirty yards from the Arsenal goal and with everyone
expecting Drogba to take the kick, Alex ran from the back to propel a cannon blasted shot into the back of the net. On first look, it appeared to be the perfect free-kick that no keeper in the world could have touched. But after watching the replay, it was
discovered that the ball pierced through the wall, where Florent Malouda was cleverly positioned. The Chelsea player had the simple task of stepping sideways in order to watch the ball fly into the top right corner. Had Arsenal placed a man behind Malouda,
that goal would have certainly been stopped. Once again, Arsenal's inexperience at the back came into play and bit them in the worst of times.
With Arsenal having admitted defeat, Chelsea applied some pressure in the dying minutes of the match. Essien was the closest as he burst into the box on the eighty seventh minute and tried to lift the ball over Fabianski, but the keeper did brilliantly to
deny the midfielder from scoring a third.
In the last minute of injury time, Alex seemed to go down while grasping his leg. The player was in fact in so much pain that he was helped off the pitch as he could not participate any longer. The match ended almost immediately after the Brazilian defender
left the pitch, with Chelsea going seven points clear of Arsenal who were now fourth in the league.
