Premier League Full Time Report: Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Birmingham City – Wolves win derby
Wolverhampton Wanderers managed to go ahead and shake of a list of injuries, to beat the visiting Birmingham City by one goal to nil, to earn themselves three valuable points and the bragging rights in the derby.
Stephen Hunt's late goal in the end of the first half, was all that was needed for Wolves to go on and beat the mighty Birmingham. Wolves could have easily gotten a handful of goals on the night, but failed to really capitalize on their glorious chances.
On the other hand Birmingham found it close to impossible to find any real chances until the last ten minutes.
Birmingham tired to attack the home side’s goal late on however they failed to get back the Wolves back line, who managed to hang on to claim their fourth win of the season and their first clean sheet as well.
As a result Wolves are now one point clear of the drop zone, while Birmingham are still on the sixteenth spot, ahead of Fulham and are now only one point clear of Wolves.
Wolves took on the match despite being without; Kevin Doyle, Matthew Jarvis, Michael Mancienne, David Jones, Karl Henry and Adlene Guedioura, but somehow still managed to dominate the game.
The goal came via a cracking run by Ebanks-Blake down the right flank, after which the player went on to destroy Scott Dann with skill and then hammered a drilling low cross across the face of the goal. With the goal begging to be smashed, Hunt only did
as the ball asked of him, smacking into the roof of the net from close range and at the near post.
The win is bound to give Wolves the much needed confidence that they have been lacking for quite some time now and is sure to help them get even further up ahead of the relegation zone in the coming weeks.
