Chelsea played host to Fulham at the Stamford Bridge, as they looked to close in on the gap at the top of the table. Despite taking the lead in the game, the Blues just couldn’t manage to contain the Cottagers, who went on to score later on in the game.
As a result, both the teams ended up sharing the points in the game.
Prior to the game starting, it was believed that Chelsea would be able to overcome their opponents with ease, give how well they had been doing lately.
At the same time, Fulham despite performing well in recent weeks, seemed to be going through a mini slump and looked like they would fall victim to the resilient Blues.
The first half saw Chelsea dominate possession, as the team went on to create numerous goal scoring opportunities. Despite the team showing glimpses of brilliance, they just couldn’t manage to beat Stockdale, who seemed to be possessed in the game, based
on the number of saves that he made.
The second half kicked off with a bang for the Blues, as they went on to score a goal just three minutes into the restart.
In the 47th minute, a ball was played to Torres inside the box and the striker went on to hold the ball brilliantly as he looked to create an opening. With all the Fulham defenders focusing on the Spaniard, he went on to slide the ball to Mata,
who snapped at the ball and sent it flying into the back of the net.
Chelsea’s celebrations were short lived, as Fulham went on to equalize in the 56th minute. Senderos went on to make an interception, as he headed the ball towards Ruiz on the flank. The winger then charged forward and turned around and crossed
the ball into the area. After a massive mix-up in the box, Dempsey went on to receive the ball and turned it into the back of the net with a close range finish, that had Czech wondering just how it sailed into the goal.
Nonetheless, neither side managed to score another goal in the game and the match ended with both teams being level at one all and hence sharing the points from the game.
