Sunderland played host to Arsenal in the Premier League, as both the teams looked to pick the three points. However, a very late goal from Thierry Henry gave the Gunners the two goals to one win in the game.
Going into the game, Arsenal had a brilliant opportunity to catch up to the top four, as the other teams who were contesting with the Gunners for the spot seemed to be falling apart.
The Gunners dominated the game early on, but as always failed to score any goals, despite their domination.
As a result, the home team went on to create an opportunity every now and then, but just like Arsenal, failed to really produce the end product.
In the 70th minute of the game, Mertesacker looked to clear the ball but collapsed on the floor. McClean went on to take advantage of the fallen defender and drilled in a low finish past Szczesny, as his effort flew into the far post.
The Gunners didn’t hesitate much and five minutes later the scores were level once again. Ramsey struck from distance and his effort crashed off both the posts, before it finally sailed into the back of the net.
Just when it looked like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 would end up drawing their game, the two second half substitutes combined, as they helped the North London club score the match winner.
In stoppage time at the end of the second half, Arshavin lifted a cross into the heart of the box and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thierry-Henry-c34918 went on to leap the highest, as he side footed the ball into the back of the net.
In doing so, Henry went on to score the match winner for the North London club and helped them break back into the top four.
The Gunners are now level with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, who sit in the fifth spot, but Arsenal’s win record has helped them claim the fourth spot, ahead of their London rivals.
The line ups for the game were as follows:
Arsenal: Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Song, Arteta, Rosicky, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Van Persie.
Subs: Fabianski, Gibbs, Coquelin, Ramsey, Arshavin, Benayoun, Henry.
Sunderland: Mignolet, Bardsley, Turner, O'Shea, Richardson, Larsson, Gardner, Colback, McClean, Sessegnon, Campbell.
Subs: Westwood, Bridge, Krygiakos, Elmohamady, Meyler, Dong, Wickham
