Premier League Gossip: Carlos on his way back to United, Palacios could be joining him
According to The News of the World, Manchester United's manager, Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to bring back Carlos Queiroz to give him a hand at Old Trafford for a third time by being his assistant manager again.
Queiroz was fired by Portugal after a specualtion involving the manager failing a drug test and is currently looking for employment elsewhere.
According to The News of the World, 'the former Portugal national team coach is still highly regarded by Fergie after the pair won three Premier League titles and the Champions League together. His return would see a restructuring
of United's coaching set-up, with Mike Phelan reverting to a coaching role alongside Dutchman Rene Meulensteen.'
Queiroz heading back to United could be a good move, since the players are used to having him around and he has had a decent record with the team, he could also prove to be useful in the dealings in the transfer windows, since
he has an insider approach to signing players from European and South American teams.
Staying with The News of the World, the paper believes that Wilson Palacios is now one of the primary targets for Alex Ferguson heading into the January transfer window.
Ferguson has been on the search for a new defensive midfielder for a while now and has set his sights on Palacios, the manager has also apparently given up hopes on Owen Hargreaves ever being a hundred percent fit again at the
same time.
According the paper: 'The Tottenham star has impressed during his 18 months at White Hart Lane and played a key role in helping Harry Redknapp's side qualify for the Champions League.
'But the Honduras international has never disguised his ambition to play for one of the established top-four clubs after making his name at Wigan and Spurs following a short loan spell at Birmingham three years ago.'
'Palacios, 26, would cost around £16million and Spurs would hold out for their asking price as he has four years left on his current contract.
'It is thought that the deal is loaded with clauses that allow him to speak to other clubs if they offer more than a fixed sum - believed to be in the region of £15m.'
Palacios could prove to be a very important buy to the United side. The only defensive midfielders that the team has at the moment are, Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick, both of whom aren't really world class players. Palacios
could help provide a stability in the United midfield which could see the team go on to win their record breaking nineteenth English League title.
The player has good physical presence and a good mind to read the game with, he goes in and makes strong challenges and can take a decent shot or two when given the opportunity. However it isn't quite clear if the player has the
mentality to play amongst the United squad having played only for Tottenham and considering United have a completely different approach to their game play, it could prove difficult for the player to make the jump.
