Premier League Gossip: Gerrard and Torres to be rested, Young and SWP to consider future
Liverpool will be taking on Steaua Bucharest on Thursday night at Anfield in the teams opening game in the Europa League. However the team in now rumoured to be without the services of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres for the game. Both the players are
apparently going to be rested by Roy Hodgson so they can be in top form for the weekend’s Premier League match with Manchester United.
Despite that fact, it is probably a wise decision on the manager’s behalf to leave Torres out of the line up. The player has so far been a mere shadow of his former self and is more than likely to be dropped to the bench if he doesn't pick up his form soon.
However the manager is looking to give his new Portuguese signing Raul Meireles his first full debut for Liverpool. Joe Cole is also going to be back after seeing out his match suspension. Along with that Paul Konchesky is expected to be fit enough to participate
in the match as well and will be looking to play in his favoured left back position.
According to the Daily Mirror: 'Aston Villa have opened contract talks in a bid to hold on to England winger Ashley Young'. The team that has shown the most interest in signing the player so far has been Tottenham, who will be looking to make another move
for the player in January. The team already tried to lure Young away from Villa Park in the summers but fell short on their attempts at doing so. The player has started to grow frustrated with Villa lately and feels that the lack of stability at the club is
affecting him mentally and physically and in turn is ruining his career.
It is still really early to assume what will happen, there are however two possible outcomes. Young could either sign a new contract with Aston Villa or he could choose to hand in a transfer request and leave the team in January. The player has been longing
to play in the Champions League for a while now and it doesn't look like Villa will be able to provide him with those services in the near future and that could prove to be the factor that causes Young to leave the team.
In other contract renewal news, Manchester City are looking to re open talks with Shaun Wright-Phillips regarding the players future at the club. The player is rumoured to be offered a tremendous seventy thousand a week deal in the near future. The reason
for the team re opening talks about the player’s future is due to the fact that previous attempts seemed to have failed, because the player wanted a five year contract renewal while the team had other plans.
Considering Phillips is now no longer the young speedy player he once was, it seems like the smart thing for him to do is to renew his contract with the team otherwise he could be forced to have an early retirement from his footballing career.
