Premier League Gossip: Rooney get's desperate, Bolton to appeal for Cahill
Wayne Rooney has apparently gone as far as to plead to be allowed to be played against Rangers in the teams Champions League match on Tuesday night. This news came in after the player was dropped from the United side that went on to draw, a six goal thriller with Everton over the weekend.
According to The Daily Mail: 'Rooney told his manager that he wanted his exile from the Manchester United first team to last only one game as Ferguson broke the news to him on Friday night that he would not be included in the squad for the trip to Everton the next day.
'It is understood that Rooney was surprised and disappointed to be told at Manchester's Lowry Hotel on Friday that he would not to be included.'
Alex Ferguson however went on to deny that he was punishing Rooney, he said that his decision to not field the player was down to the fact that, he was going to be a subject to a lot of abuse from the fans and the best possibly option would have been to not allow the player to take the field.
The manager is by no means naive and is more than aware of what he is doing. Maybe he was looking out for the player, considering the fact that Rooney failed to perform in the World Cup after he came under the radar of the media and the fans. United would not want the same fate to repeat itself in the domestic season and hence Ferguson must have thought about all of this before dropping the player from the team for the weekends game.
Bolton are also scheduled to take to the FA's court and appeal for Gary Cahill's red card, that the player picked up in the teams match against Arsenal over the weekend.
The defender was shown a direct red card for a tackle of Arsenal forward, Marouane Chamakh. However the Bolton manager Owen Coyle was more than infuriated by the referee's decision and felt that a yellow card was the only option that the referee really had.
After the match, the manager was caught saying: "It was a mistimed challenge by Cahill, nothing more than that. It was a yellow card. Losing him for three games would be a double whammy, especially considering the fantastic talent he is for us."
The player is a crucial part of the Bolton squad and having him missing for three games could prove to be costly to the team, this is why Coyle is so insistent on appealing the players red card so that he can be back in action for next weekends matches.
