Premier League Gossip: Rooney injured? Deschamps claims Liverpool wanted him
Wayne Rooney has managed to get himself injured and as a result has not been included in the squad that will be playing the mid week Champions League fixture. No one is really clear as to how, when or why Rooney got injured. However according to the
United website, the player has managed to pick up an ankle injury, which will rule him out for the coming few days at least.
According to the press:
'Rooney was expected to shake off the knock in time for the Valencia game, but while Ferguson did not want to risk aggravating a problem that has troubled the player for the past fortnight, the injury has afforded the manager an opportunity to take the striker
out of the line of fire.'
'Had Rooney been in a rich vein of form, it is open to debate as to whether Ferguson would have left him behind, but even if he had travelled, there was no guarantee that he would have started against Valencia. Ferguson has come to favour a 4-5-1 formation
in European games, especially away from home, with Dimitar Berbatov, who has outshone Rooney this season, expected to be deployed as a lone striker.'
It seems like no one really knows how serious Wayne Rooney’s injury really is. The papers have been trying to figure out just how long the player will be out for, but have so far failed miserably at doing so. Some even claim that Rooney and United have faked
the whole injury situation, so that the player can spend some more time to try and recuperate at home and try to get his form back. That being said, the way things are going with the player, it might be a long time till he can actually get back to being his
former self once again.
While some papers are referring to the, he might be back soon tactics, other papers are using a much more hit and hope approach and are hoping that their assumptions prove to be correct. They say: 'If Rooney's injury is more serious than first thought,
he will be in doubt for United's game at Sunderland on Saturday and it might threaten his availability for England's European Championship qualifier against Montenegro two weeks tomorrow.'
Marseille’s manager Didier Deschamps has finally revealed that the other manager, that Liverpool turned to, to bring to the club was Deschamps himself. The manager was quoted to saying in a press conference: "I was very proud a club like Liverpool were interested
in me," he said. "But the timing was not good.”
Looking at the way Liverpool are playing at the current moment, all the fans would be hoping that the former France captain accepted the offer, but that is not the case. However it is an option that cannot be ruled out for the future.
If Roy Hodgson doesn’t manage to turn the teams performances around then it wouldn’t be long, till the manager is asked to leave the club. Deschamps on the other hand, is currently more focused with Marseille at the moment and has said that, if the offer
is to present itself to him in the future he would give it a much deeper thought.
