Premier League Half Time Report: Newcastle vs. Liverpool (Part 1)
Liverpool travelled to Newcastle to take on Newcastle United in what was the both teams scheduled Premier League encounter. In the past the two teams had met a whopping hundred and forty eight times, with Newcastle picking up forty wins
to Liverpool's seventy one and thirty seven of the matches ended as draws.
Liverpool had however not managed to win a single one of their last three away games and managed to lose the last two in a row. If the team was to lose again tonight it would be the first time in over a year that the team went on to lose
three in a row.
However things didn't look so bright for Newcastle either. The team was under the management of Alan Pardew for the first time since his appointment and the last four managers that were appointed by Newcastle, failed to win their first
match in charge of the team.
However with the odds stacked against the manager and him sensing a lot of hostility from the home fan's he was reported to say the following minutes before kickoff: "I know I can do my job, and I'm good at it. I want to give this city
a football team it can be proud of."
Both the team's eventually took to the pitch, with the match being made even more interesting with a feeling that anything could happen tonight. Both the teams were having their fair share of problems and as a result the game was open
to be won by anyone.
The line ups were as follows:
Newcastle: Krul, Simpson, Steven Taylor, Campbell, Jose Enrique, Barton, Nolan, Tiote, Gutierrez, Carroll, Ameobi.
Subs: Harper, Guthrie, Routledge, Lovenkrands, Perch, Smith, Ranger
Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Kyrgiakos, Skrtel, Konchesky, Kuyt, Meireles, Lucas, Maxi, Torres, Ngog.
Subs: Jones, Aurelio, Cole, Jovanovic, Babel, Poulsen, Kelly
The match finally got underway with the referee's whistle and both the teams looked to go at it from the very first minute.
With the both the team's earning themselves off-sides within the first ten minutes, it was Liverpool who got the first opportunity on the night.
After a ball was looped into the Newcastle area, Simpson managed to head the ball away. However the ball went only as far as Kyrgiakos, who managed to smash a ball goal wards, only for Time Krul to fist away.
