Premier League Half Time Report: Newcastle vs. Liverpool (Part 3)
There seemed to be some communication lapses between Taylor and Krul, as they were both constantly going for the same ball. As a result the duo handed Liverpool a corner in the thirty third minute. The resulting kick bounced around a bit
before falling to Raul Meireles. The Portuguese whipped the ball goal-wards and it took a hefty defection to beat Krul, but Jose Enrique managed to make a fine stop on the line, to keep the one goal lead intact.
However almost immediately after the Meireles effort, the player seemed to misplace a pass and it fell straight into the feet on Ameobi. The striker didn't think twice and smashed a shot towards the goal; the ball took a hefty deflection
of Kyrgiakos and rolled just beyond the post, as Reina was completely beaten all ends up as the keeper had dived in completely the opposite direction.
Kuyt finally seemed to get into the game, near the end of the half after being missing for the most part, but even the players sudden realization that a match was going on, didn't seem to do the trick for Liverpool as they were once again
kept at bay due to some brilliant defending by Newcastle.
Kyrgiakos, who having a rather poor game almost went into the book in the forty first minute. The player started to argue with the referee after bringing down Carroll, but the referee didn't seem to get ticked off enough to book the player.
However the players frustration showed just how desperate Liverpool had started to become.
On the forty fourth minute, Maxi Rodriguez seemed to be trying out for the Argentinean diving team. The player had the ball inside the Newcastle box, but then managed to bundle over after coming in contact with air. The referee waved play
on, but the crowd managed to make a meal out of the situation.
The referee signalled two minutes of extra time at the end of the half and in the very last minute of extra time Liverpool almost pulled level. Meireles whipped in a cross and Kyrgiakos leaped into head the ball, but managed to miss the
post by just inches and as a result the referee blew the whistle to signal the end of the half.
