Premier League Half Time Report – Tottenham Hotspur vs. Chelsea (Part 2)
There were signs of nervousness from Tottenham early on, as in the third minute, a slip from Assou-Ekotto nearly played in Kalou to a clear goal scoring opportunity. However the Tottenham centre backs managed to do just enough, to prevent the team from scoring.
On the sixth minute Tottenham managed to unleash their first attack of the game, as Ekotto managed to beat Kalou in the air and then carry the ball ahead. He then played on Pavyluchenko, but the striker couldn't keep his shot on target.
On the seventh minute, Essien managed to catch Gomes off his line and then went on to unleash a whipping shot. The forty yard effort nearly caught the keeper off-guard but he managed to go just enough to dive down to his right to save the ball from going
into the back of the net.
Chelsea looked to have the much brighter start in the game as they continued to play with the high tempo that they have started to get associated with over the last couple of seasons.
A player who seemed to be having a rather poor start to the game was Luka Modric. The player seemed to be constantly giving the ball away and Chelsea were more than happy to oblige and retain possession for even longer.
On the twelfth minute Lennon flew into Ramires in almost comedic fashion and then went on to bundle over as though he had hit a wall, however the referee decided to award Chelsea a free kick for the efforts that were shown by the Tottenham player.
Chelsea almost immediately after that free kick won another one some forty yards away from goal, as Dawson went in late on Anelka. Had Alex been present he was sure to take this kick for the team, however Ivanovic seemed to be fancying the effort from so
far out. Ivanovic then went on to try and recreate an Alex special, but ended up falling miserably short as his effort was sent miles wide of the target.
Constantly throughout the game however, it seemed like Bale and Ferreira were going to be battling it out on the flanks. After having lost the first clash between the two of them, Bale went on to roast Ferreira on his second attempt, however this time his
cross was well wide of its mark.
A minute after the poor cross from Bale; Tottenham had their first goal of the night. Defoe who seemed to be well off-side, played on Pavlyuchenko, who went on to crack a shot into the goal. He collected the ball before strolling past Terry and then finishing
low into the right corner. However what was very clear in an offside position.
