Premier League Half Time Report – Tottenham Hotspur vs. Chelsea (Part 3)
The goal seemed to have done something to Petr Cech, who seemed to be very hesitant in coming forward to collecting lose balls and on the eighteenth minute, he nearly played on Modric to score another one for the home side.
On the nineteenth minute Essien went on to hack down Bale. The player was caught on the shin by Essien's studs, but there was no intent for a foul from the Chelsea midfielder and the game was waved to play on, once Bale managed to get back to his feet.
There was however no surprise to the fact that Chelsea were looking to give Bale a time of his life, but for all the wrong reasons as without Van Der Vaart in the side, the team was heavily reliant on Bale to provide the cutting edge.
Chelsea had their first real chance of the match on the twenty third minute. Ramires crossed in a ball towards the on rushing Kalou and with Gomes already committed and off of his line, anything on target from the striker would have drawn Chelsea level.
However Kalou somehow managed to scoop the ball over the post, in what is sure to be one of the misses of this season.
Two minutes later, Kalou tried to make up for his previous miss, by guiding a brilliant header towards the Tottenham goal but this time around Gomes was present to make the save by diving to his left.
On the twenty eighth minute, the world was reminded again just how quick Bale was. First Palacios did brilliantly to dispossess Ramires and then he went on to play a through ball to Bale down the left flank. The player then went on to sprint a good eighty
yards, well ahead of anyone near him, but once again his cross was a poor one and this time around was held by Cech.
The pace of the game was so quick, that the player seemed to be playing with an extra set of lungs. However Modric decided he had to slow things down as he started to slowly hold the ball and retain possession for long spells in the middle of the pitch.
On the thirtieth minute, Kalou played a through ball to Ferreira, who seemed to have Assou-Ekotto beaten, but the Spurs side back somehow managed to recover and win the ball back off of Ferreria, in dramatic fashion.
The commentator kept on insisting on the fact all throughout the opening thirty minutes that Chelsea didn't seem to have that creativity in the middle of the pitch, however they then went on to add that they did have a certain Frank Lampard sitting on the
bench, who was just waiting to come on.
