Premier League: Manchester City v Newcastle United half time report
Man City 1 Newcastle 1
A lively first half at Eastlands has ended level, and with two Argentinians on the scoresheet.
Carlos Tévez drilled home from the penalty spot after being brought down just inside the area by Mike Williamson – despite replays showing that the Newcastle defender got the ball – before winger Jonas Gutierrez smashed his side level following defensive hesitation from Vincent Kompany.
The visitors have enjoyed plenty of possession and have been the better side. They went close through Fabricio Coloccini’s long range effort, while Gareth Barry should have done better for City when he dithered when clean through on goal.
Newcastle suffered a heavy blow in the game’s opening moments, when Hatem Ben Arfa suffered a broken left leg in a hefty challenge from City midfielder Nigel de Jong. The French winger has been rushed to a Manchester hospital, but faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
