Premier League: Manchester United v Newcastle United half time report
Man Utd 2 Newcastle 0
Manchester United have barely had to break sweat as they lead their first match of the 2010/11 Premier League season by two goals to nil at the break.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men laboured for the first half an hour against a dogged Newcastle United side, before Dimitar Berbatov fired them into the lead the after latching onto a Paul Scholes pass that José Enrique should have cut out.
It wasn’t long before the home side doubled their advantage amid more lax defending, as Darren Fletcher eventually prodded home from close range following good work from Patrice Evra down the Manchester United left.
Before the goals, Newcastle’s Andy Carroll had missed the game’s best chance when his close range free header from a Joey Barton corner looped harmlessly wide.
Wayne Rooney fired over after being found by Berbatov, but in truth the hosts have found this contest all too easy, and will look for more goals after the break.
