Premier League Match Analysis: Arsenal vs. Aston Villa – Arsenal edge past Villa in nail bitter (Part 3)
Chamakh could have made it two nil to the Gunners in the forty fourth minute. Sagna whipped in a delightful cross after striding down the right hand flank and curled in a brilliant cross that was met by the leaping striker, however Friedel
managed to pull off one of the saves of the season and kept the tall Arsenal forward at bay once again.
However the resulting corner ended quite differently for the Villans. Arshavin looped in the resulting corner kick over everyone and pin pointed his cross to the standing Samir Nasri who seemed to be coiled up to unleash something powerful.
The player did just that as he struck the ball with a first time strike and volleyed the ball into the back of the net. The shot managed to take a slight deflection off of Luke Young, but had the defender not managed to deflect the ball chances were that it
was still going t be going in.
Arsenal were well on top of Aston Villa as the first half came to a close and went into the half way break the happier of the two teams.
The second half kicked off, but it seemed to be a completely different story this time around. Villa were the team that were taking the game to Arsenal and it seemed like the Gunners didn't have a response for all this early pressure from
the home side.
The early pressure seemed to finally pay off as Villa managed to get a goal to their name reduce the deficit to just one goal. Bannan crossed the ball into the Arsenal area and his delivery was met by Squillaci who cleared his lines. However
the defenders clearance fell right into the feet of Clark on the edge of the box.
With the moment being set up for the player to score his very first goal in the Premier League and the Villa first team, Clark delivered with aplomb. The midfielder, who is actually a centre back originally, smashed the ball into the far
post. However on closer replays it showed that Fabianksi would have managed to get to the ball had he been able to see the ball.
