Premier League Match Report: Arsenal vs Sunderland – Part 1
Following the international break, Arsenal played host to Sunderland at the Emirates, as they looked to rekindle their season and make a move back into the top half of the table.
Prior to the game, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 had managed to pick up only two wins from their opening seven games and were sitting in the fifteenth spot in the league table.
On the other hand, Sunderland were doing mildly worse than Arsenal and were desperate to pick up all three points for themselves.
The match kicked off with a bang as Arsenal took no more than twenty eight seconds to find the opening goal of the game.
Straight from the kick off, the Gunners used their brilliant passing ability as they strung together a number of passes. The ball fell to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gervinho-c14755 who darted forward and played Van Persie on with a deft pass. The captain then turned his marker and struck
the ball into the back of the net to give the Gunners the lead.
In the 12th minute, Van Persie went awfully close to doubling his lead as he dinked a delightful effort over the Sunderland keeper. Unfortunately for him, his effort managed to come back off the inside of the post.
As the match progressed, Sunderland started to get back into the game and took the game to the Gunners.
In the 30th minute, Arteta handled the ball twenty seven yards from goal and Larsson stepped up to take the resulting spot kick. The former Arsenal midfielder sent in a brilliant delivery into the back of the net and left Szczesny with no chance
at saving his effort. The former Arsenal player refused to celebrate his goal out of respect for his former team, but the damage had been done.
The Gunners then barely managed to make it into the half time break and needed a brilliant point blank save from Szczesny to save them from going down two goals to one.
