Premier League Match Report: Manchester City vs Swansea – Part 1
Manchester City played host to Swansea at the Etihad Stadium, in what was both the teams first game of the opening weekend of fixtures (the game was played on Monday night).
Going into the game, Swansea were the more confident side, as they had nothing to lose. On the other hand, City seemed to be feeling pressure of facing off against a Championship side, since it was quite unpredictable, as to how the team would end up performing.
The match kicked off with Swansea taking the game to City, to most people’s surprise. The newly promoted side were looking to dominate possession and string together a number of passes.
In the 2nd minute, Vorm went on to knock the ball out of play. City went on to build off that mistake and Silva whipped in a cross to Toure. Toure then smacked a shot goalwards, but saw his effort get blocked.
In the 24th minute, City won a corner. The ball fell to De Jong, who played on Silva. Silva unleashed a brilliant shot, only to see Vorm make a brilliant diving save to deny the City forward.
In the 31st minute, Johnson went on to combine with Silva in the Swansea area. Silva then went on to lift the ball up, only to see if come back off the post.
In the 40th minute of the game, the ball once again fell to Silva inside the Swansea area. This time around, Silva tried to side foot the ball into the goal, but saw his right footed effort sail over the bar.
In the 44th minute, Dzeko showed great skill to beat a defender and get ready to pull the trigger. However, just as he was about to shoot, Vorm leaped ahead and denied the striker from opening the scoring.
In stoppage time, Barry went on to take a long ranged shot towards the Swansea goal. Sticking with the run of play, his effort also went on to come off the inside of the bar.
As a result, the first half ended with both teams being level at nil all.
