Manchester United went on to close the gap on Manchester City, as their win over West Bromwich Albion saw them claim top spot in the Premier League table, following Manchester City’s defeat in their game against Swansea.
Going into the game, United were looking to pick up all three points from the game, as they wanted to push City all the way till the end of the season to pick up the Premier League title.
At the same time, United knew that any slip ups would see them fall out of the title race and make their hopes of winning the Premier League crown a whole lot harder.
On the other hand, West Brom were in desperate need to pick up the three points themselves, given the team was still fighting to survive relegation and couldn’t afford losing too many games at this point in the season.
The first goal of the game came in the 35th minute, as United went on to open the scoring.
Hernandez broke free and took a pop at goal. Rooney stepped up to take the spot kick and made no mistake, as he scored his and United’s second of the game.
As a result, the Red Devils went on to win the game by two goals to nil.
