Premier League Match Report: Manchester United vs Wigan Athletic – Part 2
Manchester United came out of the half time break with a bang and looked to take the game to Wigan from the very first minute of the restart.
In the 47th minute, Hernandez bent in a brilliant cross, which was met by Park. However, Al-Habsi went on to produce a brilliant save to prevent his side from conceding another goal in the game.
Wigan came close to scoring in the 55th minute when Jones bent in a free kick. His left footed effort curved over the wall and beat the keeper, but it swerved just wide of the post in the end.
Despite that almost goal from Wigan, United didn’t seem to be too affected as Berbatov went on to score another goal in the 58th minute. Valencia made a run forward before passing the ball to Berbatov. The ball was played to Berbatov while he
had his back to the goal. The striker then turned around and poked the ball into the roof of the net, leaving the keeper with no chance of stopping his effort.
Al-Habsi went on to produce another fine save in the 69th minute. Rooney crossed the ball towards Hernandez and the striker went on to connect with the ball. However, Al-Habsi managed to make an instinctive save, as he kept the striker at bay.
However, United maintained their form and their urge to attack as they scored their fourth goal in the 75th minute. Valencia received the ball outside the Wigan area and he went on to make a run forward, before smacking the ball across the goal
and into the back of the net. His shot was hit cleanly and with precision and it left the keeper wondering just how he was going to get a hand on it.
Despite the wonderful goal from Valencia, it was Berbatov who stole the lime light.
In the 77th minute, Alcaraz took out Park in the box and the referee pointed straight to the spot. Berbatov stepped up to take the resulting spot kick and went on to send his effort low into the back of the net. The striker pretended like he would
smash the ball in, but ended up sliding it gently into the bottom right.
In the end, United went on to claim all three points from the game, while managing to score five goals along the way.
