Premier League Match Report – Newcastle United vs Arsenal – Part 1
Arsenal travelled to take on Newcastle United, in what was being hailed as the biggest game of the opening day of the Premier League.
Last season, both the team’s went on to play a ridiculous game, which saw both sides share the points after ending the match with four goals apiece.
Going into the game, Arsenal were without their star midfielders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360 and Cesc Fabregas. Both the players have been linked with moves away from the club and seem to finally be on the brink of completing those moves.
Nonetheless, Arsenal had made a few tweaks to their squad and were hoping for them to help through the season and hopefully help them land some trophies at the end of the season.
The match kicked off with Arsenal taking the game to Newcastle. The Gunners were looking to run the show and were dominating possession and the run of play early on.
In the 13th minute, Arshavin got forward and looked to play http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gervinho-c14755 on with a low cross. However, Simpson managed to get in between just in time and denied the move from connecting.
In the 22nd minute, Barton bent in a free kick which was met by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonas-c18967. However, despite his effort being a good one, it ended up sailing wide of the mark.
In the 31st minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 had the best chance of the first half and arguably the game. A cross was whipped in and headed towards the Newcastle goal. Just when it looked like the ball would inexplicably land in the back of the net, Ameobi intervened
and blocked the ball just off the line.
With neither side managing to get the break through, the first half ended with both teams going into the tunnel with the score card reading nil all. Out of the two, Arsenal were looking to be the more disappointed side, mainly because they had much more
chances when compared to Newcastle, but just couldn’t seem to finish them off.
