Premier League Match Report – Stoke City vs Chelsea – Part 2
The second half of the game kicked off in controversial fashion. In just the 48th minute, Torres was brought down in the Stoke box and with everyone assuming that the referee would award a penalty, he ended up looking the other way once again.
In the 54th minute, there was another Chelsea appeal, which didn’t get awarded. Terry headed a ball Torres, who missed his shot. However, Woodgate went on to bring the striker down and the referee could have seen that as obstruction and awarded
the Blues with a penalty.
Just a minute later and it was another controversial decision from the referee. In the 55th minute, Lampard made his way into the box and was taken out by the Stoke defence. There was no arguing over whether that was a penalty or not, but once
again, the referee seemed to miss the incident altogether.
In the same play, after the penalty was not given, Mikel went on to smack a volley goalwards and came very close to scoring for Chelsea.
In the 72nd minute, Anelka went on to chip Begovic, but the Stoke keeper somehow managed to get his finger tips to the ball and saw it come back off the wood work.
In the same play, Torres crossed the ball towards Kalou, who headed the ball goalwards, but his tame effort was easily gathered by the keeper.
With neither side managing to break the other down, the match ended with both the teams leaving the game at nil all and also ended up sharing the points at the end of the game.
Chelsea and Stoke were both going to have to improve their performances in the coming weeks, if they were to compete with the rest of the league.
