Sunderland played host to West Brom in the Premier League as the Black Cats looked to try and get something against the high flying West Brom side.
West Brom were sitting in the fourth spot in the league and if they went on to win tonight they would have risen up to the third spot at least for the time being.
The match started off with both sides going close to scoring early on, but in the 30th minute, it was West Brom that scored the opening goal of the game.
Zoltan Gera went on to collect the ball some twenty yards from goal, and then went on to bend in an unstoppable shot into the back of the net.
West Brom then scored a second goal before the half ended as Long went on to score for the visiting side in the 44th minute. Mignolet came forward to collect a high ball but failed to gather. The ball then fell to Long who sent it into the back
of the net with ease.
In the second half, Sunderland showed some signs of life as they scored in the 73rd minute. Gardner smashed a free kick goalwards, and after the ball took a big deflection off the wall, it dipped over the keeper and into the back of the net.
In the 81st minute, Lukaku stepped up to take a spot kick after Ridgewell was taken out in the box. Lukaku made no mistake as he calmly slotted his finish into the lower left corner of the goal.
Sunderland got another goal back in the 87th minute, which made it look like the home side could still salvage a draw. After Mayhill failed to clear a corner, Sessegnon went on to smash the ball into the roof of the net with ease.
In stoppage time, West Brom ended the game as a contest as they scored their fourth goal of the game. On the break Fortune broke forward and went on to find the back of the net with no one being able to stop him and contain his run.
As a result of that last goal, West Brom won their game by four goals to two.
