Premier League Match Report: Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa – Part 2
The first five minutes of the second half saw Villa come out of the tunnel with a bang. The team looked more lively, than they had been in the entire game.
In the 47th minute, Herd crossed the ball into a dangerous area and the ball was met by Bent. However, his effort was targeted straight at the keeper, who had no difficulties in gathering the ball.
As the match progressed, Tottenham started to assert their dominance on the game once again.
In the 53rd minute, Modric combined with Adebayor, as he played the striker on with a brilliant pass. With just the keeper to beat, Adebayor somehow managed to send his effort just wide of the mark. In doing so, the player was denied a hat trick,
by no one but himself.
Walker, who had been quite lively during the game, sprang forward in the 58th minute and went on to smack a shot goal wards. However, his effort managed to swerve wide of the mark at the very last minute and sailed behind for a goal kick.
In the 61st minute, Adebayor once again came close to scoring a hat trick for Tottenham. Bale, made the tantalizing run once again and played the forward on with a delightful pass. The striker had the simplest of task to tap the ball into the
goal, but he somehow managed to miscue his shot.
In the 76th minute, Tottenham launched their last troublesome attack of the game, as Modric whipped in a telling cross. Given failed to hold onto the delivery of the ball, but made no mistake, as he denied Adebayor from finding the back of the
net, thanks to a brilliant save.
As the match drew to a close, Tottenham went on to just pass the ball around, as they seemed to be more than content with the way the match was progressing.
Soon after, the referee blew the whistle to signal the end of the match, which ended with Tottenham beating Villa by two goals to nil, as they looked to be the only team on the pitch which was capable of playing half decent football on the night.
The line ups for the game were as follows:
Tottenham: Friedel, Walker, Kaboul, King, Assou-Ekotto; Lennon, Modric, Parker, Bale, Van der Vaart, Adebayor
subs: Cudicini, Bassong, Gallas, Giovani, Pienaar, Sandro, Defoe
Aston Villa: Given, Cuellar, Dunne, Collins, Warnock; Hutton, Petrov, Herd, Heskey; Agbonlahor, Bent
subs: N’Zogbia, Guzan, Ireland, Bannan, Delph, Clark, Weimann
