Premier League Match Report: West Bromwich Albion vs Aston Villa - Part 2
The second half of the game picked up from exactly where the first half had ended. Both teams were playing terrible football, with neither side being able to keep possession of the ball for more than a couple of minutes.
Nonetheless, all of that changed in the 60th minute as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Odemwingie-c29794, levelled the score on the night by scoring the equalizing goal for the home side.
The goal if anything was a thing of beauty. Both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-Scharner-c29393 and Simon Cox had attempts at goal blocked off, but the ball eventually managed to roll all the way to the Nigerian striker at the far post and he made no mistake as he thumped the ball into
the top of the net.
In the 62nd minute, things took a toll for the worse for West Brom as they were reduced down to ten men. Paul Scharner was shown a second yellow for tussling with Petrov and had to pre-maturely leave the pitch.
West Brom took all their men behind the half-way line in hopes to rescue a draw from the game, despite being dropped down to ten men. However, they were facing a real fight as the Villans kept coming at them with all their might.
In the 82nd minute, the next real chance of the game developed for Aston Villa. Stuart Downing received the ball on the edge of the area and struck a fine effort towards the West Brom goal.
However to everyone’s surprise, Scott Carson went on to make a brilliant diving save, as he turned the low shot around his left post and behind for a corner, leaving almost everyone bewildered as to how he had done that.
Two minute later, in the 84th minute, a moment of magic from Mulumbu turned the game around. After picking up the ball in the Villa area, the midfielder turned and dinked the ball into the back of the net and as a result, handed the ten man Baggies
a very late lead in the game.
Villa seemed to have no response for that goal by Mulumbu as despite going into seven minutes of extra time, they just couldn’t muster a shot on target and hence the match ended with West Brom winning by two goals to one.
