Premier League Match Report: Wigan Athletic vs Manchester City
Wigan Athletic played host to league leaders in the Premier League, as both the teams looked to pick up all three points from the game.
However, City were the hands down favourites to come out on top, given Wigan’s poor record this season.
Nonetheless, despite that fact, a recent drop in form suggested that City were still vulnerable and that Wigan could potentially get something out of the game.
The match kicked off with Wigan causing some early pressure on City and the home side nearly went on to score in the third minute. However, following a mess at the back by City and a disallowed penalty later, City survived a very early scare.
As the match progressed, City started to finally get back in the game and in the 22nd minute, the visitors opened the scoring in the game.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Silva-c10601 went on to bend in a free kick from the left side of the pitch and his delivery was met by the towering Edin Dzeko. The striker managed to connect with the ball in just the right manner, as he sent his effort flying into the far corner of the
goal.
Despite it seeming like Wigan might crumble under the pressure following the goal, they managed to hold their ground and attack City on a number of occasions.
Nonetheless, neither side managed to score anymore goals before the end of the first half.
As the second half kicked off, City seemed to be a whole lot more comfortable on the ball and looked to create a number of chances of their own.
The team went awfully close to scoring on a number of occasions in the second half, but Al-Habsi, who seemed to be having one of his better games, just didn’t let the Citizens score another goal.
The keeper produced a number of fine saves and constantly kept frustrating his opponents.
Despite Al-Habsi putting in a brilliant display, he wasn’t given much help from his strikers, who just couldn’t find a way past the City back line.
As a result, the match eventually ended with City picking up all three points thanks to the solitary goal scored by Dzeko in the first half of the game.
The line ups for the game were as follows:
Man City: Hart, Zabaleta, Savic, Lescott, Clichy, Milner, Barry, Nasri, Silva, Aguero, Dzeko
Subs: Pantilimon, Johnson, Kolarov, Hargreaves, Onuoha, De Jong, Rekik.
