Premier League Match Report: Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Wigan Athletic – Part 1
Wolverhampton Wanderers played host to Wigan Athletic, in a Premier League encounter between the two sides.
Going into the game, both Wolves and Wigan were sitting in the middle of the table after having a mediocre start to their seasons. Both the teams were desperate to get three points, in order to move as far above the relegation zone as possible.
Given that Wolves were playing at home they were being voted as the team to come out on top at the end of the game.
Wolves started off the game in brilliant fashion and looked to threaten the Wigan goal time and time again. In fact, the team had two appeals for a hand ball in the opening few minutes, which the referee inexplicably seemed to miss.
As the match progressed Wigan started to get back in the game and looked to create chances of their own. However, the Wolves defence was in top form and constantly kept denying the Wigan forwards.
In the 31st minute, Wolves went on to finally make the break through, as they scored the first goal of the game.

went on to smash the ball into the back of the net, as he helped the home team take the lead in the game.
In the 41st minute, Ward went on to take out Boyce in the box, as a result, the referee went on to point to the spot as he awarded Wigan with a spot kick.
Watson stepped up to take the kick, which was stopped by Hennessey. However, the keeper managed to deflect the ball back into the patch of Watson, who made no mistake the second time around as he tucked his shot away neatly.
Soon after, the first half came to an end, with both the teams being held level at one goal apiece.
