In the 17th minute of the game, Adebayor was shown a red card for a poor tackle on Cazorla, which saw Tottenham get reduced down to ten men.
The Gunners went on to level the score in the 23rd minute, as Mertesacker scored from a corner with a fine headed effort.
Before the half came to an end, Podolski and Giroud both scored for Arsenal. First Podolski saw a deflected shot get fumbled into the back of the net. Then in the added time at the end of the half, Giroud went on to put the ball into the back of the net
from a Cazorla cut back.
Then in the 58th minute, Arsenal scored their fourth goal, as Podolski crossed the ball to the far post. The weight on the pass was just right and Cazorla went on to rush to the ball and slide a calm and composed finish into the back of the net.
Bale gave Tottenham some hope in the 69th minute, as he scored a goal from nothing some twenty five yards out.
However, that goal proved to be nothing more than another consolation goal, as Arsenal scored a fifth goal in the 88th minute. Oxlade-Chamberlain danced his way forward and then played a pass to Walcott. Walcott then went on to cut the ball into
the back of the net, as he scored the last goal of the game.
As a result of that late goal, the match went on to end in a five goals to two win for Arsenal.
