Southampton took on Fulham in the Premier League, as the newly promoted side looked to pick up a win, which would see them enhance their chances of survival at the end of the season.
However, Fulham were aiming for a European spot this season, and they weren’t going to allow the newly promoted side to walk over them just yet.
The match kicked off with a bang for the home side, who managed to pick up a very early lead in the game.
In the 4th minute of the game, Lallana went on to whip in a corner and Fonte managed to rise up ahead of everyone in the box, as he nodded a fine effort into the back of the net.
In doing so, the defender managed to give the home side a very unlikely early lead in the game.
Fulham failed to get anything in the first half, as the visitors saved all their efforts for the second half of the game.
In the 70th minute of the game, Fulham managed to finally draw level in the game. Riise charged forward and hit a shot that wasn’t going anywhere near the goal. However, Hooiveld managed to get in the way of the shot and went on to deflect the defender’s effort into the back of his own net.
Then in the 88th minute of the game, Fulham managed to take a very late lead in the game. Riether went on to cut back a ball to Richardson, who knocked a deflected effort into the back of the net.
This late goal resulted in everyone assuming Fulham would take all three points from the game, given the time at which the goal was scored.
However, a minute later the goal scorer went on to foul inside his own area and Southampton were given a free kick.
The effort was drifted in brilliantly by Fox, and Fonte rose the highest once again, as he guided a very late effort into the back of the net.
As a result of that goal, the match ended as a two all draw, despite Fulham believing they would take all three points from the game with just two minutes left on the board.
