Premier League News - 07th Oct 2010: Newcastle United, Stoke City, Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur
NEWCASTLE UNITED
Former Chelsea player and current boss at Marseille, Didier Deschamps has expressed his sorrow over Hatem Ben Arfa's leg break. The Newcastle United player recently broke his leg in a freak Nigel De Jong challenge. Ben Arfa is a season long loan signing
from Marseille to Newcastle United and both the manager and the player earlier had a heated argument regarding the move.
Deschamps stated that he didn’t call the player and instead left him a text asking of his condition. He added that he already knew how the player would be feeling as it would have been disappointing to get injured after having the best starts to his premier
league adventure. The Marseille boss just asked for patience from the youngster and expected Arfa to come back stronger once he fully recovers.
STOKE CITY
Stoke City have officially announced the departure of Andrew Davies on one month loan to Walsall. The central defender was part of the Middlesbrough youth squad before moving to Southampton in January 2008. He couldn’t establish himself at Southhampton and
had to move on loan term to St Mary’s, where he was given the club’s player of the year award in only 25 appearances.
Owing to the accolade, Stoke City manager signed the 25 year old but loaned him out to Preston North End and Sheffield United. This would be the player's fourth loan term as he looks for a boost following a dip in form. Walsall has moved to the bottom of
the table but the Club chairman, Chris Gamble has promised to bring in new players in order to turn things around.
"Andrew is a player with an exceptional pedigree, who has played the majority of his football at Barclays Premier League level. He is a commanding defender with real quality and we are grateful to both Tony Pulis and John Rudge for allowing him to join us
on loan.", said Gamble.
SUNDERLAND
It was good news for Sunderland's full-back, Phil Bardsley as he gained his first call up by the Scotland National side. Bardsley would be part of the Scottish National side that would be facing Czech Republic in the Euro 2012 qualifying match.
Craig Levein, the Scotland Coach hailed the player’s recent form for the Black Cats. Although a England born, Bardsley qualifies for the Scottish National side owing to his Glaswegian father.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
Tottenham Hotspur's midfielder, Tom Huddlestone has dodged a possible punishment for his apparent elbow that he allegedly hit on a forward while playing against FC Twente. The player was involved in a clash with Twente forward, Marc Janko as the Dutch player
accused Huddlestone of deliberately trying to hurt him claiming that he wanted to “smash his arm into my face”.
The incident left Janko in a nosebleed during the match and UEFA took serious action. However, after taking a closer look on the incident, UEFA confirmed that there was no case and it was an accident. "UEFA's disciplinary department looked into the matter
and decided not to open a case.” read a statement from the UEFA spokesman.
