Premier League News - 11th Oct 2010: Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers
Aston Villa:
Aston Villa's winger, Stewart Downing has been called up by the English manager, Fabio Capello for Tuesday's Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro. Downing is one of the late call-ups by Capello as the player replaces Spurs’ winger in the line-up.
Earlier, Lennon had complained of a possible back concern and thus had to pull out. Downing has been extremely impressive with the Villans this season and is presently in the form of his life. He  has transformed into an exciting winger, who knows when to
deliver the right ball and also knows when to shoot.
Downing is also not goal shy this season, having already scored thrice in his six appearances for the Midlands club. His first goal came against West Ham United, when he finished a one-on-one chance, which was followed by a rocket header against Stoke City
three weeks back.
Stewart Downing was also on the scoring sheet against Wolves, when he managed a simple tap-in to record his third goal of the season. He was one of the many exciting talents in England who were ignored for this summer’s World Cup but the winger would now
be looking to impress Capello for a permanent spot.
Birmingham City:
Birmingham City's midfielder, Barry Ferguson is currently having the time of his life with his present club and has expressed the desire to finish his career with the Midlands club. The midfielder is one of the few ever-present players for Birmingham this
season and has played every minute of all the 7 fixtures in the Premier League campaign so far.
Birmingham has managed to pick up 7 points and currently sits on the 16th spot. Earlier, it was expected that Ferguson would want to end his career at Ibrox but now the player has no plans of going back to the Scottish Premier League.
"I love it here. I have said plenty of times before that I wasn't enjoying my football during the last few months in Scotland. I made the decision with Rangers that I had to move on because I was going pretty stale up the road. I was playing the same teams’
week in, week out. The manager gave me the opportunity to come down and I think I had to prove again that I could play at this level”, claimed the 32-year-old midfielder.
Ferguson looked happy with his life in England and wants to see out the remaining of his career while playing for Birmingham. At Birmingham, he is one of the senior players and is respected by the coaches and players alike.
“I'm enjoying every minute of it. The boys are fantastic, everything about the club is great and I'm enjoying my football. I have got another two years left on my contract now and hopefully I will see them out”, stated the former Rangers' player.
Blackburn Rovers:
Blackburn Rovers' youngster, Jake Kean has extended his loan spell with Hartlepool United by one more month. The teenage sensation has been impressive while playing for Hartlepool and has established himself as the first choice for the club.
His one month deal was set to expire this weekend, but the League one side manager, Mick Wadsworth was delighted to extend his stay. In his term with Hartlepool, Jake played a total of 5 times and managed to keep three clean sheets.
These clean sheets enabled the side to register three straight wins and the club was thankful for the efforts of the 19-year-old. The former Derby County player joined Blackburn in 2009 but still has a long way to go before making it in between the sticks
for the Premier League side.
