Premier League News - 11th Oct 2010: Blackpool, Bolton Wanderers, Chelsea, Everton
Blackpool:
Blackpool's manager, Ian Holloway has expressed sorrow for the midfielder, Keith Southern. Keith had played an important role in the side’s surprise promotion to the Premier League last season but after that he hasn't managed even a single start for Blackpool
so far.
Blackpool has been impressive so far this season, managing to defeat the Premier League heavyweight, Liverpool by 2-1 at Anfield last week. Southern, however, has managed just two off-the-bench appearances so far, owing to his recurring knee issues. The
manager was sympathetic with the situation of the 29-year-old but refused to change the starting XI until absolutely necessary.
"Keith Southern has to be the unluckiest man in the world at the moment because he was probably one of our best players last year and he can't even get in yet. I have promised them all they will get a good chance, but with the new players and the formation
we've got, we are looking a threat and we caused Liverpool all sorts of problems. But as the season goes on, we'll be tested by injuries and more.” maintained the Blackpool boss.
Bolton Wanderers:
Gary Cahill has become the 2nd Bolton Wanderers player to be called up for the England national side, as he replaces the injured Phil Jagielka.
Jagielka had to pull out of the Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro owing to his hamstring pull up, paving way for Cahill to be brought in. The player would be joining his club skipper, Kevin Davies in the 23-man squad for the Montenegro clash at Wembley
tomorrow.
He looked delighted to be part of the Lions' outfit. Earlier, the 24-year-old had made to the national side for the first time last month where he made a cameo appearance in England's 3-1 victory over Bulgaria.
Chelsea:
Scotland FA have announced that they have no plans of convincing Josh McEachran to join Scotland. The Chelsea midfielder is one of the emerging talents in the Premier League but Scotland's U-21 coach, Billy Stark has downed reports that had claimed that
he tried to convince the 17-year-old to switch his allegiance from the Three Lions.
McEachran made his Premier League debut two weeks back, when he came on as a substitute against Manchester City. Josh has the choice of choosing between the two nations owing to his Scottish lineage.
"Of course, I'm aware of Josh but he's playing for England and there's nothing to suggest he's unhappy with that situation. He's playing for England and that's it as far as I'm concerned. If someone is currently playing for another nation, we'd have to be
given some encouragement." stated the Scotland's U-21 coach.
Everton:
Everton's assistant coach, Steve Round has praised David Moyes’ refusal to settle for the second best and claimed that such attitude by the first team coach has become an inspiration for the players.
Since his arrival at Everton back in 2002, Moyes has transformed the club into a lethal side and Round was thus confident that Moyes’ attitude would lead the club to new heights as he believes in each and every player playing for Everton.
According to Steve Round, with a manager like David Moyes at the helm, who motivates the players and expects nothing but the best from each of them, success and silverware would only be a matter of time.
Everton had one of the worst starts to the season but recorded their first victory against Birmingham City last week. It seems that it would only be a matter of time before Everton gets back to their winning ways and pull themselves out of the bottom half
of the table.
