Premier League News - 12th Oct 2010: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Birmingham City
Arsenal:
The Arsenal Football Club has confirmed the injury of their midfielder Bacary Sagna, who is now expected to be out for three weeks. Sagna recently injured his left thigh and he would be out of France's squad for the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Romania and
Luxembourg.
Sagna has announced that he wouldn’t want to rush his return back to the first team. The player has made over 139 appearances for Arsenal and is one of the most important players for the North London club. While talking to the reporters, Sagna maintained
that he was currently going through his rehabilitation program.
The right-back said that it would take approximately three weeks for him to return but he would want to take his time before resuming the first team training. Arsenal currently sit on the number 4 spot with 11 points, 7 points behind the table tops, Chelsea.
The Arsenal players are known to be technically superior but physically fragile and a total of 8 players have already been sidelined in the 2nd month of the Premier League season. The so-called “Dark November” is yet to come for the Gunners as
usually most of the first team players get injured during this month.
Aston Villa:
Aston Villa's winger, Ashley Young has expressed his admiration for the new manager, Gerard Houllier and said that he would want to sign a new contract with the club when he thinks the time is right.
The winger is currently on international duty representing England in their Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro at Wembley today and has still 2 years remaining on his current contract.
Houllier has also expressed his desire to keep Young at Villa Park for the unforeseeable future, especially after Tottenham Hotspurs showed their interest in the 25-year-old.
Young said, "I am delighted with the manager and the new regime and the way things are going. I've got two years left of my contract and I'm just concentrating on the football side of things and I am sure everything will get sorted", stated the 25-year-old
left-winger.
Birmingham City:
Birmingham City have officially opened the talks regarding a new contract with the midfielder, Sebastian Larsson. The 25-year-old had joined the Midlands club in 2007 reportedly for 1 Million Pounds and he is in the last year of his current contract.
Larsson is the product of Arsenal’s Youth Academy and he spent a loan term with Birmingham before putting pen to paper. Since his arrival, Larsson has made over 170 appearances for the Royal Blues and has thrashed 20 goals.
The club thus wants to keep the player before the start of the winter transfer window, as there is a risk of Larson joining an overseas or a Scottish club.
"It's obvious that the club wants to know what will happen and I also want to know. We are negotiating again. We will see if we can find a solution because I have got six months left on my contract in January", said Larsson.
