Premier League News-14th Oct 2010: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Birmingham City
Arsenal:
Arsenal's midfielder, Henri Lansbury is determined to make an impact on his club in the current season. The player was outstanding while representing his country in the U-21 draw with Romania at Bostsani.
This draw booked England a ticket for next summer’s Euro 2012 U-21 finals in Denmark. Henri has made a good start to his Arsenal season this year and scored his first goal for the club at the Carling Cup.
Lansbury played an important role in Arsenal’s recent trip to Partizan Belgrade. While talking to the media, the player said that he aims to make a name for himself in the first team and would want to concentrate on that.
He vowed to work hard and improve his overall game while hoping for the best after that. The player wants to end his uncertainty in the first team, having being in and out several times. Henri made a substitute appearance against Belgrade two weeks back
and relished that opportunity to play at such a level.
Aston Villa:
Aston Villa midfielder, Ashley Young has claimed that his booking for diving was an error on the part of referee. Earlier, he was fouled twice in the Euro 2012 qualifier with Montenegro. Young made two penalty claims in that match but was denied both by
the referee, Manuel Grafe.
In the first incident, the player collided with opposition defender Miodrag Dzudovic in the penalty box, followed by a push by another defender just at the edge of the penalty box. The referee wasn't interested on both occasion and booked Young for making
a deal out of the second incident.
However, Young denied any claims of diving and stated, “I felt that there was a foul beforehand in the first phase of play that didn't get given and I just couldn't do anything to get out of the way of the player coming in. I thought it was a penalty but
that's the way things go. We didn't get it and we've just got to get on with it."
Birmingham City:
Giovanni Trapattoni has praised his fellow International, Keith Fahey in the wake of Ireland's draw against the World Cup side, Slovakia.
The midfielder made his first start for the national side and it was his free-kick which led to Ireland securing the lead. The 27 year old has had vast experience in the Irish League and joined Birmingham last season.
Fahey was an instant hit with the midlands club and has since made 57 appearances while scoring 4 important goals. His injury time goal against Blackburn Rovers last season rewarded the side with their first ever top half finish in the Premier League.
"I thought Shane Long and Keith Fahey played great games. For the future, we can have confidence in them, knowing the options we have in the squad. We have time in the future; our next game is a friendly. I may play one or two other young players and we
can start the qualification again with more confidence", said Giovanni.
