Premier League News- 6th Oct 2010: Stoke City, Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspurs, West Bromwich Albion
STOKE CITY
Stoke City Chairman, Peter Coates believes that Kevin Davies’ inclusion to the England squad is expected to bring a change of policy by Three Lions' manager, Fabio Capello.
The 33-year-old Bolton striker Davies has recently been called up for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro, which was huge for the aging striker. While the chairman was happy for the striker, he was unhappy with the omission of Matthew Etherington.
Stoke City has scored 12 goals this season and no less than 10 were due to the efforts of the left winger. "I am sure England must have looked at Matthew Etherington because other clubs can see what a good player he is. People say England should look at
players with the big three or four clubs, who have Champions League experience. I don't agree with the view that the best players always make the best team. Sometimes a player, because of the way he plays, can do more for the team than someone else who might
be more talented.” claimed the club chairman.
SUNDERLAND
Sunderland manager, Steve Bruce has backed the in-form striker Darren Bent to keep his name on the scoring sheet while playing for English national side.
The 26-year-old hit man found his first goal while playing for the national side when they thrashed Switzerland 3-1. There are currently a lot of injured strikers in the England Camp, which would enable Bent to prove his real worth. He was thus backed by
his coach to keep on scoring.
The manager stated that the only reason Bent was there was because he deserved to be there and he was delighted to see him in the ranks at England. The manager praised Bent’s professionalism and said that he has proved himself to be a prolific striker in
the Premier League, which is the toughest league on the planet.
"How many Englishman can claim that? Not many. It was great to see him back in the squad the other month and great to see him on the score sheet", claimed the Black Cats' boss.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS
It was no surprise when Gareth Bale was named the Welsh Footballer of the year. The left back, who has now transformed into a left winger, was given the award owing to his super quality in the entire 2010 season.
The player only recently burst onto the scene in the second half of Tottenham Hotspurs’ season and is now one of the most wanted players in Europe. Bale is now a first team starter and it was his impressive form which led Redknapp qualify for the Champions
league this season.
There is no stopping to Bale in this season as well as he has already scored thrice in his 9 appearances. The European Big Boys, Real Madrid and Manchester United were interested in the services of the player but manager Harry Redknapp declined all the offers.
It was Bale’s performances which led to him being awarded the Man of the Match against Sweden in March. He was also an integral part of the side which faced Montenegro in the Euro 2012 qualifiers.
WESTBROMWICH ALBION
West Brom player, Jonas Olsson has praised his fellow teammate, Youssouf Mulumbu’s impressive performance as the holding midfielder was impressed by the way the youngster took faired in that position.
Olsson stated that Mulumbu was an extremely talented player and he has shown his quality in the midfield ever since joining the club. The player added that the midfielder has now established himself as a top quality player and noted that his personality
is just outstanding.
The entire club was extremely pleased with the hard work and commitment the player has put in and it makes things easier for the manager when a player takes over the centre midfield like Mulumbu did.
Olsson noted that it was the centre midfield which lacked the last time West Brom made it to the Premier League and there was no covering for the advancing defenders.
