Arsenal
Arsenal star defender Thomas Vermaelen has alerted all Arsenal fans not to expect a galore of goals from him this season, as maintaining a clean sheet is his top priority. The player managed to score 7 times last season and was aware of the fact that fans expect him to score this season. The defender does expect to contribute something towards the team but keeping clean sheets would be the most important thing for him. Thomas stated that although it may sound a bit weird, but for a defender, winning 6-0 is better than scoring one and end up conceding two. That may come as a shocker for some people but for Vermaelen, the most important thing is to defend and defend overall as a team, which would help the team go further. The player concluded the statement stating that if they can defend first, they can win games and anything over and above that would be a bonus.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa captain has given some useful advice to Harry Forrester to take up further footballing education at Kilmarnock. The young striker has only recently joined Villa on loan from the Scottish Premier league in attempt to play senior football for the first time in his career. The player was a benched substitute, when Killie’s won 1-0 against Aberdeen some 9 days ago but aims to get his debut in front of the home crowd on Saturday. Forrester however took the opportunity to link up with the SPL legend Petrov at Aston Villa, as soon as an opportunity was presented to him. The striker claimed that he had a word with the former SPL before moving to Villa and claimed that Petrov has been somewhat of a legend with the Celtics. Stiliyan Petrov was very encouraging about the SPL, as he enjoyed playing up here and he felt he came on a lot as a player. “I want to improve by being here, get a few goals and push the team up the league," claimed the loan player.
Birmingham City
City midfielder Keith Fahey was delighted to score his first goal for his national side, claiming that scoring the goal has helped him realize his career long aim. The player managed to score the only goal for the Republic of Ireland in their 1-0 triumph against Armenia on Friday evening. The win was just what the doctored had ordered, as Ireland had to make it to the Euro 2012 qualifiers. The 27-year-old, however, admitted that he didn’t even know how to celebrate the goal, considering it was a long time since he had found the back of the net. The midfielder claimed that it was more of the opponent’s defence’s fault, as the ball was bouncing and they couldn’t clear it in time. Fahey stated that one of the defenders knocked the ball in front of me and the player was just at the right place at the right time. The blues midfielder claimed that he didn’t know what to do since he had scored his last goal back in May 2009, in the promotional match for Birmingham. The goal was somewhat of a dream come true for the 27-year-old.
Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn recently won their U-18 encounter with Derby County, in what was a thrilling clash between the two on Saturday. The team under Gary Bowyer took an early 2 goal lead, within the first 20 minutes. Tom Hitchcock and Jamie Maclaren took the home side to the lead but the visitors took advantage of the slack play. Derby County managed to score three times to take the match 3-2. In what were the deciding moments of the game, Maclaren and Hitchcock again found the net in order to claim their first win of the 10/11 season.
