Premier League News – Barry Ferguson pens new deal while Miller believes he is back to his best
West Bromwich Albion striker Ishmael Miller joined his current club after failing to impress in Manchester City. He got off to a great start but was injured owing to a ligament injury. He was in good form when the injury surfaced during the first half of the 08/09 season, and it took time to recover and heal.
He therefore had to sit out for that season as well as most of the 09/10 season. He however played his first match after injury at the start of 2010. He admitted that he is only just coming back to his full form and potential, and will need some time to really get things going. He would have to fight for his spot in the club, as manager Roberto Di Matteo attempts to sign David N’gog from Liverpool on loan. If the deal goes through, Miller would want to find his form quickly, if he is to make it into the starting 11. Suffering an injury in the crucial years of your career makes you a forgotten man, and Miller would want to make an instant impact, in order to play regularly for his team.
Miller stated that he has more talent and skill than anyone at West Brom, and it was perhaps just bad luck that he got injured. He added that he was just getting the hang of things when he got injured in the 08/09 season, where West Brom were relegated from the Premier League.
He insisted that even though he was playing on 85% of his potential and skill, he was still making a name for himself. He later got injured and therefore could not play. However, having fully recovered from the injury, he added that he feels sharp and believed that whenever he plays on his 100% potential, there is no one who could keep him out of the starting XI. He was therefore at ease about whosoever the club thinks of bringing, as he was confident that when his form hits, he will be chosen above anyone.
He admitted that Liverpool striker David N’gog is a respectable player, and admitted that when clubs bring new players into the side, it creates a healthy competition amongst the players. The competition factor provides the players with the opportunity to bring out the best in themselves.
In other news, Barry Ferguson of Birmingham City has extended his contract, which keeps him at the club till the summer of 2012. The Scottish International was voted the club players’ player of the season, and has made an instant impact following his move from Rangers last season. The player was happy to sign the new deal, which keeps the 32 year old at the club till 2012.
Ferguson is currently busy on the pre-season tour with his club, which takes him to China and Hong Kong. He added that the deal was done before the team left for the pre-season tour, and was delighted with the fact that he can now fully concentrate on two years at Birmingham City. He added that the deal was like a two-way traffic; the club contacted him and had a chat with him, and admitted that he was always interested. Birmingham City impressed in their season at Premier League after promotion, where they finished ninth. He was therefore pleased with his performance for his side, who showed promise, which is evident from the results. He added that he enjoyed his first season at the club and was more than happy to stay at the club for another season.
"I can now focus on trying to do the job I did last year, and do it even better.” said the 32 year old midfielder. Birmingham City were impressive as they battled out with the top clubs in Englsand, and finishing 9th in the league is a huge achievements for club who only just made it into the top flight of English Football.
