Premier League News: Chelsea slaughter Ipswich Town, 7-0
Ipswich came to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon and it was like bringing slaughter lambs to the butcher. Chelsea needed a morale boost and it seemed that facing Ipswich Town was precisely the remedy they had prayed for.
The last time Carlo Ancelotti’s men were in action, they travelled to Wolverhampton Wanderers, where they suffered a humiliating 1-0 defeat. This effectively killed any hopes the Blues (Chelsea) had of retaining the Barclays Premier League title. That night
at Molineux, the Pensioners (Chelsea) fell to an unfortunate Jose Bosingwa own goal and could not summon the fire power upfront to score a goal for themselves. If Chelsea’s disastrous run continues, then they are in danger of being prematurely eliminated from
the FA Cup this year. It was this prestigious competition that they won last year at Wembley. Ipswich, just days ago fired their manager Roy Keane, due to the recent below par performances. So caretaker manager Ian McParland led Ipswich into this one.
Carlo Ancelotti decided to rest some big names as he gave the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jeffrey-Bruma-c18265 and Gael Kakuta saw some action as second half substitutes. But Chelsea did retain a strong
spine with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ramires-c30523, Nicholas Anelka and Salomon Kalou in the starting eleven.
This time, Chelsea did not disappoint. The Blues were 7-0 winners, bringing back smiles on some very gloomy faces. This game reminded the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 followers of the tantalizing football the Blues played, in the beginning of the season. And its also worth mentioning
that it prominently highlights the Pensioners fall from grace in recent months, which has led them from table toppers to mere paupers, hoping for a fourth place finish.
Chelsea took 33 minutes to get started but when they got started it reminded everyone of the saying: ‘when it rains, it pours’. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salomon-Kalou-c32266 opened the scoring and Daniel Sturridge added in less than a minute after that. Then in the 42nd minute,
Carlos Edward headed a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 free kick into his own net and Nicholas Anelka added a fourth quickly after the interval. Sturridge got another three minutes after that and Lampard scored twice in one minute, with powerful drives. Lampard looked to have
regained some composure in front of goal and this performance as a whole was professional and clinical, exactly the opposite of what they’ve been giving in recent weeks.
This might just be a false dawn for the Blues, as a thrashing of Ipswich is certainly no benchmark for a team who were Champions last year and a side who still retain winning aspirations on the Champions League and the FA Cup. The Premier League definitely
looks beyond them right now but no one can count them out. The Blues still have some big matches to play and if they can rediscover their form, they just might lift the trophy in a ceremonious fashion.
Ipswich face Arsenal in their next clash. The Gunners look to wrap up this Carling Cup semi final en route to the final. Ipswich couldn't have asked for a more menacing schedule.
