Premier League News: David Silva officially a Citizen, Everton manager hails club’s strength
David Silva has officially joined Manchester City on a four year deal, for around 24 million pounds. Silva was an integral part of his national side’s triumph in the World Cup, and completed his deal after passing the medical.
Silva will be hungry for more trophies after tasting the most prestigious football trophy in the world. He will want to use his ability to help Manchester City reach new heights and contend for the coveted Premier League title. His national side overcame the Dutch in a highly competitive encounter in the FIFA World Cup final, and the match was decided by an extra time goal from Andres Iniesta.
The player was obviously very excited, and stated that he was very happy with what his side accomplished in the summer, considering it to be the best time for any footballer anywhere. He, however, was excited about playing for Manchester City and was looking forward to play his first season in the most competitive football league in the world. He added that he would want to finish in the top four to play in the Champions League and perhaps win some sort of silverware this season. He added that both Roberto Mancini and Cook are building a solid team, combining some of the biggest names in football, and therefore would be looking to challenge for trophies and titles. Silva will be going on a much deserved holiday after the World Cup, and is aimed to first make it into the starting XI upon his return, and then strive for the league title as well as other silverware.
The former Valencia man couldn’t play most of the World Cup campaign, owing to the sheer class and star power the Spanish side enjoyed. He played the opening match against Switzerland, which was the only match Spain lost.
He will, however, be looking to get back into the Spanish squad by learning from his new employers, and impress his national coach by making an instant impact onto the team. "Of course, if you play well for your team and things go well, the national coach is going to see that and you become more important to him," he added.
He stated that he has had some cherish-worthy memories when he played in the City of Manchester Stadium. Silva scored the only goal when his former club Valencia met City in a friendly match, and was therefore looking to make the stadium even more favourable for him.
In other news, Everton manager David Moyes is happy with the squad he has at the club, but was smart enough by not making any pre-season predictions. Everton is currently playing a pre-season campaign, and recently defeated Melbourne Heart 2-0. They play their first match of the new season against Blackburn Rovers, and would want to finish better than the number 8 spot they managed last season.
He stated that the current squad was the strongest ever from the time he started back in 2002, and was looking forward to the new season. Goals from Rodwell and former Manchester United man Louis Saha, which sunk Melbourne Heart, made the manager proud of the squad he had.
He, however, didn’t make any boastful statements about his aims in the coming season, claiming that he was bad at setting goals. He believed in a more day-to-day approach, and treats each game as a challenge and just waits for things to happen. However, he was ambitious and aimed to do better than the previous season. He wanted to just keep on going and strive hard to see the side in a better position than the current one.
Jermaine Beckford is the new upcoming talent in Everton, who signed from Leeds United. Moyes praised the striker’s ability after he came close to scoring in the friendly. He believes that the player certainly has the potential to wonders and expects him to do well with Everton.
