Premier League News: England - Part 4

A few more news updates from the world of the premier league in England.
Stoke City: Stoke City perhaps signed one of the biggest players for the club in the form of Eidur Gudjohnsen from Monaco. The deal, however, became even bigger when they converted the loan move into a one year permanent contract. With just hours remaining for the transfer window to close, Stoke announced the arrival of former Barcelona and Chelsea striker.
However, upon revelations that there was only a year left in the 31 year old’s contract with the French side, the club agreed to an undisclosed fee for the 31 year old. Stoke City’s manager, Tony Pulis claimed that it’s good business for the club to announce that Gudjohnsen is now an official Stoke City player. Pulis added that Eidur wanted desperately to return to the premier league and are hopeful to leave his mark at Stoke.
The president claimed that Stoke would provide the perfect venue for the player to rediscover himself and hopes that his services would enable the club to move forward.
Sunderland: Ghanian star Asamoah Gyan, who signed a shock 13 million move for Sunderland, claimed that he would be perfect to be playing in such a club. The player added that he relishes the fact to be playing for such a club and looks to make an impression in front of the English fans.
"I follow English football and I know Sunderland have incredible fans. I especially know about the derby when they play against Newcastle. That is something incredible. I have witnessed that myself. The Sunderland fans never say die.”, claimed the 23 year old.
The player went on stating that the fans keep on cheering till the final whistle and that gives him the confidence needed to produce top quality football. Gyan believed that he was here because of a reason and that is to play at his best. The Ghanian has already seen Sunderland play and thinks it would be a good opportunity.
Tottenham Hotspurs: Spurs forward Peter Crouch is expected to sit out the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland, owing to a back injury. The striker’s inclusion in the squad would always have been doubtful as the manager revealed that the player had rib problem in Spurs shock first defeat of the season to Wigan. English Coach Fabio Capello has already replaced the striker since the news of the player going in for treatment. Peter Crouch was phenomenal for Spurs when he scored a hatric against Young Boys and awarded the UEFA Champions’ league group stage spot to the North London club.
West Bromwich Albion: Newly promoted side, West Bromwich has claimed that they wouldn’t appeal for James Morrison’s red card against Liverpool. Albion manager Roberto Di Matteo and other officials went through the replay of the player’s clumsy tackle on Liverpool striker Fernando Torres just minutes after their 1-0 defeat at Anfield.
It is believed that the club still considers the sending off to be an harsh one, yet they still lacked evidence to prove that the tackle was a “clear and obvious mistake”. The manager added that they did go through the incident on TV and told everyone they felt at the time. The manager agreed that James tackle on the player was a clumsy one, yet he still honestly just wanted to take the ball without any ill intentions. Therefore, Di Matteo believed that the punishment was too harsh for the crime and for them to prove to the FA that the referee made is mistake would be very difficult. That is the reason why they don’t consider to take any action against the issue and not take the matter to the FA.
