Premier League News: Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United
Fulham
Fulham manager Mark Hughes has put his trust in the aging legs of Danny Murphy, claiming that the centre back may well keep performing on the highest level despite reaching his mid thirties. The 33-year-old tops the long list of Fulham players who are currently
in the final year of their current contracts but the manager has been nothing but impressed by the player’s performance so far.
Mark Hughes stated that when he arrived at Craven Cottage, he had 10 players who had only a year left on their contracts. Hughes confirmed that it was long list of players and it would take time to determine their future.
Hughes praised Murphy’s performances for the outfit, claiming that the reason behind his inclusion in the first team came about because of his top form. Hughes claimed that should the player keep perform in the same manner, there was no reason to believe
that the player’s contract will not be renewed. The manager outlined that Murphy was both influential both on and off the pitch and had the ability to sustain the pressure.
Liverpool
Newly signed Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles has claimed that he is well aware of the passion that club Captain Steven Gerrard has in playing for his hometown club. Meireles had the same sentiments while playing for Porto prior to his move to the Merseyside,
where he signed a four-year contract.
"I can sympathize with people like Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher because, like me, they are players who have played for the major club in their city. That brings pressures that are difficult to deal with because when things go wrong, the local players
sometimes feel the frustrations of the supporters a lot more," claimed the 27-year-old midfielder
Manchester City
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has issued a general warning for all potential buyers of unsettled goalkeeper Shay Given that a substantial transfer fee would be required to take the Republic of Ireland away from the Eastlands. The player recently
lost his number 1 jersey to Joe Hart, who has been phenomenal for the outfit. Given, who is fast approaching his 36th birthday, looks for more first team action for his remaining career and has been allowed by the manager to find employment elsewhere.
Mancini explained that Shay was a great goalkeeper and would cost any club a substantial amount for his services. The manager added that he has given permission for Shay to leave if he fancies to do so but would still be happy to have him at the club in the
January transfer window.
Manchester United
Newly appointed first choice Captain Nemanja Vidic is delighted with honour of being the club Captain, but believes that with player like Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand at the club, there is a strong competition for the coveted armband. The Serbian
stated that playing as the club captain had bolstered his performances and was still going to play the same that he did before the responsibility. Vidic explained that wearing the armband has enabled him to find new avenues for his game and has started working
even harder.
"It is a big responsibility but like I said before, Gary, Ryan and Rio have worn the armband over the years and they are the example for all the players. When you have people like that around it is very easy," claimed the 28-year-old Serbian international.
