Premier League News: Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City
Fulham
Fulham midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi expects to play more minutes with his current employers as he comes near to full fitness. The player has faced another injury and has spent this season so far on the sidelines owing to a thigh sprain. However, the 25 year
old midfielder, who joined Fulham in the summer of 2009 hopes to resume full training with the Cottagers very soon. The player claimed that his condition was improving every day as he was getting treatment on a daily basis along with going through regular
weight sessions and gym work.
The South African International has already started the rehab routine and expects to start training next week. Dikgacoi has only managed to make 12 appearances thus far for the Cottagers since his transfer from Golden Arrows. The midfielder admitted that
it’s yet another bad start to the season this year but the player was confident that he would recover soon. Dikgacoi’s aim for the season would be to play more games than what he managed last season.
Liverpool
Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish has confessed that he wanted to replace Rafael Benitez at the helm of affairs before the formal selection of Roy Hodgson. Dalglish was player as well manager for periods between 1985 and 1991. Dalglish was also the last person
to bring the coveted English title to Anfield. After that, it has been 20 hard years that the club has struggled to add to their 18 league titles record. In that period, arch Rivals Manchester United have won the title 11 times, equaling their coveted record.
The 59-year-old was considered as nothing less than a legend at Anfield and believed that the time was right for him to take over the post at Liverpool following Benitez’s departure. However, the officials at Liverpool dismissed Dalglish’s applications and
preferred former Fulham coach Hodgson to take charge of the troubled club. Kenny has confessed that he was very much disappointed to be overlooked for the post. In his book titled “Dalglish in his own words”, the player stated:
“It was right for everybody that Rafa Benitez left - for him and for Liverpool Football Club. There just comes a stage in every manager's career when the board says, 'You've been good for the club but we feel it would be best if you go'. Sometimes it works
the same way for a manager - 'I've done my time. There's no animosity but it's time to have a go somewhere else'. When it was clear Rafa was going, Christian Purslow asked me to get involved in the selection process for the next manager”.
Dalglish went to claim that he wanted to reveal his real views for the board and desperately wanted the opportunity. In his meeting with Christian and club Chairman Martin Broughton, the player/manager formally put forward his name but “We don’t want you,
Kenny” was the only reply he got from the officials. Club officials claimed that they had bigger and better positions for the legend, which had much more longevity.
Manchester City
PFA Young player of the year James Milner has claimed that fellow City and English team mate Adam Johnson is in the form of his life right now. The English International managed 2 goals for the international side owing to his natural wing play and followed
that with a man of the match performance against Blackburn over the weekend. Milner has claimed that there is much more to come from his team mate for both club and country.
Milner claimed that it is always difficult to play for both club and country. Younger players are always more inconsistent with such responsibilities but Johnson has played many fixtures in his young career. The midfielder claimed that all Johnson needs
is more experience and that is exactly what the international trips are providing him with. Milner praised his teammates ability and claimed that when a player is performing at the highest level, all he needs is to just keep on going.
