Premier League News: Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United
Liverpool
Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has expressed his trust in the new owners of Liverpool and expects the club to return to its glory days soon.
New England Sports Ventures’ main owner John Henry and Chairperson Thomas Werner became the new owner of the club last week and had their first meeting with the players last Saturday. Joe Cole joined Liverpool this season on a
free transfer from Chelsea and was happy by the aims and ambitions of the new owners. He now expects things to change at the club and expects the side to pick up their form and climb out of the bottom three of the Premier League. Joe Cole is considered to
be one of the best midfielders in his top form and expects his teammates to buck up and gain form to get the club out of the relegation zone.
"We're happy that it's all sorted out and the club's got some direction again. I know the fans are happy. They (NESV) seem genuine and they seem like they are doing it through passion. Everything seems great. I definitely think
they can help us get back up there," stated the 28-year-old. Joe Cole was impressed by the aims of the new owners and expects a wave of change with his new club. Things have been anything but favourable for the winger, as he left the Premier League winning
club Chelsea to join Liverpool, who are currently battling relegation.
Manchester City
City manager Roberto Mancini has confirmed that he has had no contact with United striker Wayne Rooney regarding any possible move. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed the desire of Rooney leaving the club on Tuesday and
stated that the player has refused any more contract negotiations. This has led to many speculations regarding the 24-year-old joining neighbours Manchester City, who have the capability of providing Rooney with ambition and required wage rate. However, when
asked whether there had been any contact between Rooney and the club, Mancini replied that there hadn’t. Like other top managers, Mancini also expects Rooney to stay with his current club.
“Rooney is a great player but I think he'll stay at United. He's a good player, he's an important player for United," claimed the City manager.
Manchester United
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has refused to criticize Edwin van der Sar for his howler against West Brom and claimed that it was bad luck which haunts the team’s results in the Premier League. It was for the third time this
season that United threw away a two-goal lead, which led to them losing more points in the Premier League. Those points may hurt their cause of challenging for the Premier League title and their confidence levels seemed to be dampened following the draw. However,
the United manager failed to understand what was going wrong with his team. Van Der Sar’s drop against the Baggies was perhaps the player’s one howler in a career filled with achievements and Fergie refused to say anything to the 40-year-old.
"The mistake was uncanny. Here is a player with 130 caps for Holland and the most fantastic career you could imagine and he makes a mistake like that. You cannot even criticise him because he doesn't deserve that. He is allowed
to make one horrendous mistake in his life. It was at a time when we didn't need it of course, but it happens," claimed the United manager.
Sir Alex Ferguson has urged his side to forget about the saga regarding Wayne Rooney and concentrate on the coming fixtures. Van Der Sar has enjoyed the best 5 years of his career since joining United in 2005, having won three
Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups, 2 Carling Cups and the UEFA Champions League. The player was also named the UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year.
