Premier League - News Review: Newcastle United, Stoke City
NEWCASTLE UNITED
The new Newcastle United boss is confident he can make Magpies' in-form striker Andy Carroll an even better striker as Pardew takes over responsibility for Carroll’s development.
Andy Carroll has made great strides in the last 12 months to establish himself as Newcastle’s major goal scoring threat and force his way into http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 team. And having worked with a string of top flight attackers
at various stages of their careers in the past, the Newcastle boss is confident he can take up the baton.
Pardew said, "I just think he is a sound character, and that bodes well. If I am honest, on the training ground, I haven't seen that much because of the conditions. But in his performances, he has set himself his own standards,
and I will continue that and improve on that if I can. I have done well with strikers in the past - Bobby http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358, Teddy Sheringham - so I would like to think some of the things I have pulled from them, I can dip
into those which suit his style."
Newcastle United hammered http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 by 3 three goals at home two weeks ago. Alan Pardew and his men are currently placed 8th in Barclays Premier League with 22 points to their name out of 17 league games.
STOKE CITY
The Potters manager has warned his on-loan striker from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermaine-Pennant-c18364, that Stoke City will not break the bank to keep him. Jermaine Pennant’s loan deal with Stoke City will expire next month and it seems like
the former Liverpool marksman wants to stay at Stoke for the rest of the season. However, Pennant’s parent club Real Zaragoza are reported to be claiming £6m for the winger despite signing Pennant for free.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tony-c35440 Pulis said that Stoke City will try and do a deal with Pennant but the club would not go over the odds for the former Liverpool striker.
The Potters boss said, "If we can afford Jermaine and we can get the deal done, then that is what we will do. If we can't then we'll have to move on. But it's very important we keep the wage structure in place. It's a tough world
out there at the moment. We live in a bubble and don't appreciate and respect exactly what is going on. But the chairman lives in the real world and is trying to work with a system at this club where we do push on, but in a way where we don't put ourselves
in financial problems."
Stoke City are currently placed 13th in the League standings with 21 points to their credit out of 17 games. The Potters will play their next game against Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 on the Boxing Day.
