Premier League News Review: Nov 23rd, 2010- Arsenal, Aston Villa, Birmingham City
Arsenal:
Arsene Wenger was left perplexed by the way his side surrendered a 2-0 interval lead at home to arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur who came back to win 3-2.
Arsenal’s legendary manager said, "When you look at the run of the game, what we created and what Tottenham created, you are a bit speechless we lost." He elaborated, "But we lost our focus, were punished on that and made some basic mistakes. At 2-0 up,
it looked too easy and we eased a bit off. We certainly have a problem to sort out at home. It is a shame because overall we had quite a good game, one of the best we have played recently and were not rewarded."
Arsenal slipped the chance of going top of the table with this loss, which also ended their five match unbeaten streak. Currently, the north London giants are sitting third in the table with two points short of Chelsea and Manchester United. They have so
far managed 26 points out of 14 Barclays Premier League fixtures. Moreover, they will visit Braga tonight for a Champions’ League Group Stage fixture.
Aston Villa:
Aston Villa's assistant manager insists that the new signing of Robert Pires would bring about a positive impact on the club's young players. Gerard Houllier gave McAllister a late contract while being at Liverpool. Recently, he repeated the same stint at
Aston Villa and offered Robert Pires, 37, a six month Villa Park contract. Pires was also given his first appearance last weekend against Blackburn.
Villians' assistant manager stated, "He is a proven winner. It gets thrown around a lot these days when people say they are a winner but he is a genuine article. He's a European champion and he has won the World Cup as well. He has vast experience and was
a fantastic player in the Premier League for Arsenal. People thought he was coming to the end of his career but he went to Villareal and done well there for several seasons.”
Aston Villa lost their last match against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park by two goals. Gerrard Houiller’s men are now at 12th spot with 17 points to their name out of 14 matches. Aston Villa will welcome Arsenal for their fifteenth match of Premier League
next Saturday.
Birmingham City:
Defender Liam Ridgewell is hoping to be the next uncapped player to catch the eye of Fabio Capello. The Italian manager of Three Lions handed debut to three new players in England’s latest fixture against France. Ridgewell won England Under-21 honours earlier
in his career and, at the age of 26, is confident he can still be worth a chance at senior level.
Ridgewell said, "There's a transition in English football and everyone wants to be part of it, myself included. We're just trying to keep our heads down and try to keep going. As long as we keep performing and doing well for our club, I'm sure we'll get
a chance.”
Birmingham City recently produced yet another shocker by defeating the Premier League champions Chelsea by one goal to nil.
