Premier League News – Thursday 26th August 2010 (Part 2)
Bolton Wanderers
Wanderer’s manager Owen Coyle does not expect more players to join the club in the summer, signalling towards the end of transfers, at least for the summer. The manager claimed that the current financial crunch at the club doesn’t allow for more transfers and hence doesn’t expect more players to join the club. Coyle claimed that he experienced a dodgy pre-season as none of the players were offered any new contracts. The manager admitted, however, that he would love to be in the position to be able to spend 10 or 15 million pounds to bring in new players, but still has done well with the squad that he has. Coyle claimed that even though they don’t have the funds to make transfers, he’s still happy with his club and the squad. The manager added that adding a few new players may well be his wish, should the financial climate at the club change in time for the expiration of the summer transfer window.
Chelsea
Premier leagues Champions Chelsea have released an official statement regarding the Serbian duo of Nemanja Matic and Slobodan Rajkovic. The statement confirms that both the players would spend a season long loan with Vitesse Arnhem in the Dutch league. Nemanja Matic made three off the bench appearances for the Champions last season and managed to wear his first Premier league medal in the process. Rajkovic, who plays as a defender, has yet to make a single first team appearance for the Blues but has had a vast experience in playing in Netherlands owing to his loan terms with PSV and FC Twente.
Everton
Merseyside defender Shane Duffy continued his long journey on recovery road, following his successful comeback from a life-threatening incident as he helped the reserve side to draw against Chelsea. The player had to undergo an emergency surgery owing to his unusual collision while training for the Republic of Ireland, after severing an artery near his liver. "Shane had a horrendous injury at the end of last season. It was touch and go whether he actually died. It was very, very close. He played for the reserves and came through it very well”, claimed Assistant Manager Steve Round. Round however claimed that he is very pleased with the player’s recovery but stated that the player is still not ready for the first-team action. The Assistant manager added that the player hopefully would make it into the first team squad in due time. The player is one of the many players who have climbed up the ranks at Everton. The defender broke into the first team back in 2009 and has since made 3 appearances for the Merseyside club.
Fulham
Reports suggest the Zoltan Gera has had talks with Fulham over his future owing to his concerns regarding his role under new manager Mark Hughes. It is believed that Gera thinks that he would become a cameo player for the side under Hughes, although the player was an integral part in Fulham’s dream run in the Europa league. Fulham managed to reach the Europa league final, only to lose in extra time from eventual Champions Atletico Madrid. The midfielder has scored some important goals with Fulham including two against Italian Giants Juventus in the Europa league. The player also scored against Chelsea last season thanks to a beautiful chip.
Liverpool
The Reds have officially confirmed that Hungarian forward Krisztian Nemeth has transferred to Greek club Olympiacos. The 21-year-old has never played for the Reds despite joining the club back in 2007. The player has spent little time in Liverpool as he was loaned out to Blackpool in 2009. He had a short loan deal with Blackpool, which lasted for only one month. Liverpool then decided to loan out the player at AEK Athens, where he made 17 appearances and scored 3 goals.
